When you look at my galleries of newborn baby photos, you will see lots of relaxed and sleepy babies. But in reality, most babies have some time awake, and I like to make the most of this time!
When you book a newborn shoot with Tiny Baby Studio, I will send you some useful tips for getting the most out of your newborn shoot. The list is fairly short (nothing too complicated!) and designed to help us all have an enjoyable and settled photoshoot.
I ask that you try to time a feed for when you arrive at the studio. As you arrive you can make yourself comfortable and then you can feed your baby. With a bit of luck, baby will doze off and I can start to take the beautiful portraits that you see on my website, blog and Facebook pages. Usually at some point baby will wake and if baby is still settled I can capture some amazing portraits with your baby looking right into my camera.
Newborns can be very alert and can sometimes decide that sleep isn’t for them right away, so I have techniques to photograph babies while they are awake. Parents make the best props while baby is awake as you can see! Adorable!
Siblings can help too, creating amazing newborn portraits while baby is awake.
I find that time and time again, my clients adore awake photos of their babies so I don’t stress at all if baby is alert… as long as they are happy I keep snapping away! I absolutely love ‘open eye’ shots and often wonder what babies are thinking… they’ve only been here for a few days and there must be so much to take in! Their expressions are so cute and if we are lucky we might even get a smile.
